Stop #4
Choose your team
Select preferred partners and collaborators
-
For example:
An informal call or email to companies or individuals (e.g. a team you have previously worked with or that you have heard about through word of mouth or other sources), or
A formal request for proposal (RFP).
Ideally, you will engage one individual/company to represent you and coordinate with others who will be involved in the scope.
If the scope is a complex renovation, this may be an architect. If the scope is a simple replacement of your existing equipment, this may be your HVAC service provider.
-
Consider multiple factors, not just cost.
Define and measure evaluation criteria, such as:
amount of experience on similar scopes at similar buildings,
reputation,
timeline,
and price.
-
Assign scores (i.e. 1-5) for each team on each criterion, assign relative weight to each criterion based on importance to you, and select the team with the highest overall score.
See Stop 5 for some questions you could ask to have more effective conversations with proponents when selecting your preferred team.
