Finalize design & sign the construction contract
Once you have selected a team, ask for a work plan for how they will execute the required scope on the agreed-upon schedule.
Ask your team to:
-
Note for building owners: Give preference to systems that can operate at cold outdoor temperatures (e.g. down to -20/-25°C) to get the most out of your heat pumps.
-
Definitions:
A hybrid system uses a mix of heat pump and gas.
The switchover temperature is the outdoor temperature at which the system switches between heat pump mode and gas mode.
The switchover temperature should be set as low as acceptable.
-
Confirm if any noise mitigation strategies are required.
-
Confirm the system is either
compatible with available electrical capacity.
or increases capacity as little as possible while maximizing performance, e.g. selecting and choosing a hybrid system.
-
Applicable to RTUs only.
-
For building owners:
Every building benefits from a backup heating plan (e.g. equipment that only turns on when the main system fails or is undergoing maintenance).
Choose a backup heating system that works for your goals and building; if your priority is to turn off gas, avoid gas backup.
-
If incompatible, provide required upgrades/replacements.
-
Provide and implement a commissioning plan, and provide a comprehensive warranty.
Create a plan to minimize tenant disruption during construction.
Provide maintenance services, if needed.
