Understand your options
Define the desired scope and schedule

A simple scope statement could be: “Design, install, and commission a heat pump system to replace my existing RTU(s) OR either fully or partially replace my existing furnace and AC (if it exists) by [indicate target end date].”
A more detailed scope might be helpful if you have other requirements – like needing construction to occur on weekends, adding a humidifier, or relocating ductwork.

Equipment life expectancy (as determined in Stop 2).
Install equipment in Spring or Fall to avoid heating or cooling disruption during extreme weather.
Coordinate with other renovations. For example, if you are having work done on your roof, consider finishing that before installing new rooftop heat pumps.
Install equipment to minimize occupant disruption (particularly if you rent your building and expect to have a period of vacancy between tenants).
Build in time to budget and access funding.
